Leave It To Peever

 QUOTE OF THE DAY
Back to Full Blog

"Man is kind enough when he's not excited by religion, but once the holy holies have got a grip on him he's capable of almost anything. When a disciple from the wildcat religious asylum comes marching forth, get under the bed. It doesn't matter whether he's a Christian, Hindu, Jew, or Muslim. If he's made up his mind that you need reforming, he will do it with anything handy-an ax, eight hundred years of witch burning or, if necessary, he'll blow you up." Mark Twain

It's amazing how some old quotes still apply today. Does it ever get any better?

Wow! That sums it up, doesn't it? What a wise man he was; and so entertaining.

Take care!

You might like the song I posted on my blog, Peever. You will hear it when you come on. I couldn't find the classic Dylan version but it's close enough. Scary times, Peever....sca-aaa-

Hi prisonerofhope,
I do like that song. You're right, it is an old Dylan song. The times are changin', but not for the better. It is time we got off our butts and made some changes. The polling place may be a start, but they had better get their act together quick. We give, give, give, and all we do is get it.

Hi Lulublue,
Twain was a classic. I assume he meant the religious would blow up people in war, not blow up people by blowing themselves up. That really would never occur to a person, that someone would be willing to do that. Those damn virgins. But we aren't much better. We Christians burned many a woman at the stake, and blow people up with smart bombs from miles away. Must be more humane.

Hi,
"Does it ever get any better"? Apparently not.

You are right that it is not for the better. This merging with Canada and Mexico? The 700 billion dollar bank thing? What's going on Peever? I think this slide started a long time ago and now it's too late to stop it. Have you ever seen the Zietgiest video? If not, you might want to look it up on the internet (I'm not sure I spelled it right). It was made by an athiest college student but ends up with the conclusion that we are all going to be "chipped" within ten years. I think it may be sooner, what do you think? The video is replete with historical fact (two of my kids are US History and Global Studies teachers at the secondary level so this was important to me that goes back to the time before FDR. I think you might like it.

I'm not scared, Peever, just cautionary. 2008 has been a crazy year and not just for me personally. BTW, in 2 days I am on the road again. I probably won't live in the Mid-West again but it was a great experience while it lasted. I may blog about it sometime but right now I have too many on-lookers tracking my whereabouts so I'd rather keep it under for now.

Stay in touch, Peeve, you're the greatest...............

You can't say Mark Twain was shy when it came to expressing his opinions.
