 TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCE
Back to Full Blog

The truth is, it's hard to know what the truth is. Is the truth the truth because one particular person says so? Or because it's written in a fancy covered book? What does the truth look like? Can I take a picture of it? Or smell it? Is it an angel with wings? Or a devil with a pitch-fork and tail? Can you taste the truth? Does it have a pleasant look and an appetizing appeal? Is the truth like water running through your fingers? Could you drown in it? Maybe the truth is not the truth? And what's the consequence for making up a truth that's not?

Peever:

I too fraught with this question at some point and for myself at least I've determined that the truth is that which is "Undeniable" like getting hit on the foot with or poked in the eye, than on the other hand, truth in word presents itself as a rhyme rather than a peck and is known when it's heard. I've been served well by this definition...I believe it to be true. Pop'

Maybe truth as beauty is a subjective thing and is in the eye of the beholder.

Actually its very simple, Truth is what I say it is.

And I say the Truth is false.

Experimentalists in science respect all data, separate out that which is not useful. Is truth another word for useful? Tend to believe all "win at any cost" politicians are not truthful. Ditto ads. News? Whom can you trust? Your own common sense and the little man in the back of your head that tells you it is true. Not the devil in the back of your head telling you what you want to hear.

Peever:

What is Truth? How do you answer that question? How does our culture today answer that question?

lonewolfchronicles,
Thanks for stopping by. Rather than truth being in the eye of the beholder, it is in the brain of the beholder. I suppose all 6 1/2 billion of us have our own truths.

Hi,
The truth is always false. And at the same time always true. So there you go.

Whit,
I like your video. We hear a lot about truth, but it is definitely something you can't put your thumb on.

Hmmm, interesting blog -

what is truth?

Is truth different than a fact?

Is truth different than an opinion?

We say 'a fact is true'. The sun is shining right now - that is a fact.

Some people think than an opinion is true. We say, 'that sun is blazing hot right now' - that is an opinion, is 'truth in the eye of the beholder.

I think too much of what people trumpet as truth is really opinion. (and of course that is IMHO )
