Leave It To Peever

 Hippie, Yippie, Yuppie

Rebels of the 60's, and standard bearers of the new millennium. My how the times they do change. I never was a real good hippie. I liked soap and water too much. But I did like our battle cry: Make love, not war. It's funny how some things can resist change. I just put a bumper sticker on my car with those exact same words. Anyway, I sort of joined the ranks of the hippies as best I could for living in the rural Midwest. My crowning accomplishment as a hippie came in 1968 at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. I had been involved in Bobbie Kennedy's presidential campaign and was not very happy with what was going on at the convention. It was during that time that I vicariously ended up joining the yippies. They asked if I wanted to join, I said sure. My credentials were shaky at best, but I was a member of Students for a Democrataic Society. After the convention, my days as a yippie were numbered. In the rural Midwest, there wasn't a very big following. Having been born in 1948, I was a shoo-in as a yuppie. Philosopy wise, I'm worse at being a yuppie than I was a hippie or yippie. After being in the same room with Abbie Hoffman, Tom Hayden, David Dellinger, Jerry Rubin, Eldridge Cleaver, Fred Hampton, and Staughton Lynd, and having been schooled by a Marxist economist and sociologist at Southern Illinois University, and one of the countries leading authorities on pacifism and non-violence at Bethany Theological Seminary, I have a rather poor outlook towards young urban professionals. All things being equal, I'd have to say I'm still pretty much a rebel. My energy level is a whole lot lower, and I am a bit more sensible, but I still don't buy what's going on in this country. In the 60's we rebelled against an immoral war and a good-for-nothing President. In this new millennium, we need to do the same.
I'm glad I sat down and wrote this. It reminds me of who I really am.

 Screwing America, Bush Style

This is a new one for the sex books: Screwing Bush Style. Bend over, close your eyes, and get ready to scream:
* Let's start a war for no good reason and than defend it with every senseless idea we can think of. No weapons of mass destruction, no aggression shown towards us, no nuclear capacity, no connection with 9/11. Speaking of 9/11....
* The government is going to spy on you, but it's for your own good. What you read at the library, what you access on Google, where you bank, wire taps, medical records, the whole nine yards. You name it, they want to be able to use it. Against you. After all, you never can tell when one of us might become a terrorist. Remember 9/11.
* Let's torture the truth out of those heathen terrorists. And all the while I thought we had entered the Age of Aquarius. Ends up we re-entered the Dark Ages. This 9/11 thing is starting to wear a little thin.
* The Supreme Court has taken on its fourth confirmed right-wing, Christian Soldier. There's a real break. King George has taken a giant leap forward in his ideological crusade to cleanse the world of any remnant of compassion and justice. And all in the name of 9/11.
* Giving money to politicians in other countries to help influence them being elected. There's a novel concept of democracy we're shipping abroad. It's called Bushocracy. Buying friends in high places, since we have so few, since 9/11.
* Gonzales, Attorney General, one of Bush's political cronies, is going to investigate who was responsible for the leaking of information about Bush's secret spy plan, rather than investigate whether his spy plan was legal. This takes us full circle back to 9/11, the day Bush saw the writing on the wall: I can become King, and no one can stop me. I have 9/11 on my side.

 Speaking of love

* Love comes in a variety of flavors, none of them violent.
* Love has been abused and misused so much that it's hard to tell the real-deal from make-believe.
* Love means having to say you're sorry, probably numerous times.
* Never get married just for love, cause it can get awful thin, awful quick.
* Love can take you a long way, unfortunately, sometimes down the wrong road.
* They say love makes the world go round. I say it's gravy.
* Still, if I had to chose between love and hate, I'd take love every time. I hate hate.

Some simple tips to help get you through life:

* God has nothing to do with right-wing Christian soldiers. In fact I would hope he doesn't even like them.
* Don't accept this apocalypse bull. It's just the rich mans way of exploiting the world and not feeling bad about it, since we'll all be dead anyway.
* Drink a little coffee, have a beer or two, eat a good steak every once-in-a-while, and maybe have sex on your birthday. Remember, don't do anything in excess. And that includes birthdays.
* If someone tells you they know the truth, run.
* Don't go looking for a mate at the bar.
* Look for something greater than yourself to believe in. If all you believe in is humans, your in for a life of despair.
* Read as much as you can.
* Every day, try to do something for someone else. Preferably nice.
* Remember, money can't buy you love.

 Crazy is:

* Working 60 hours a week at a job you hate.
* Never saying you're sorry.
* Getting married to that special guy who beat you while you were dating.
* Not divorcing him when he beats you again.
* Thinking you can kill terrorism.
* Wanting to look 30 when you're 60.
* Thinking revenge will make you feel better.
* Locking yourself up in the house because you are afraid to live.
* Believing pharmaceuticals will cure our souls.
* Letting everything up to someone else.
* Thinking politicians will police themselves.
* At below sea level and unprotected from storm surges, believing it is a good idea to rebuild New Orleans.
* Believing your way is the only way.
