Leave It To Peever

 THE PEEVERS TEN COMMANDMENTS:

1. Never sunbath in the nude. You might forget to turn the other cheek.
2. Do not look at another man's ox, nor his ass.
3. Do not cheat your fellow man. There are exceptions to this. Please check your corporate by-laws.
4. Do not join a country club. It's not nice trying to fool God into thinking there are only white people.
5. Do not think you are any better than the next guy, or you might spontaneously combust.
6. Do not change your sex. God hates that.
7. Do not idolize other Gods. More than one God would be way too confusing for most people.
8. Go to church on Sunday and do not work. Golf does not count as work and counts for church. And don't forget to pray for that putt to go in.
9. Do not believe anything Moses said. He was President of the NRA.
10 Finally, never, ever, question The Peevers words. I've been to the promised land. Well, maybe it was just Las Vegas, put still.......

TALKING ABOUT CHANGE IS ONE THING, MAKING IT HAPPEN IS ANOTHER

I'd like to think of myself as an environmentally responsible person, but I'm afraid that would be a joke. I do a lot of talking about a more sustainable, safe, environment, but when it comes to putting that talk into practice, I'm not very good at it. Every day we should be weighing our decisions about what we buy, what we eat, how we travel, against its impact on the Earth. How can I limit the negative impact I'm having on the environment? Attempting to get by on less. Staying local. I continue to live in denial. Denial that I alone can make a difference. That it has to be me who needs to change. It is easier to turn my head and plow forward.
We had a bad storm in town the other night. Seventy mile per hour straight-line winds. A lot of trees and limbs were brought down. Power was out in just about every home. People calling into the radio wanted their power on, now. One guy was complaining he was missing the Cubs game on cable. Another lady insisted they get her power on because she had a baby in the house. If I were a terrorist, all I would do is bomb the power sub-stations and blow up the waterline. You wouldn't have to do anything else, people would kill one another.
We are a nation of spoiled brats. We think the Earth is here to serve us. Makes me wonder who we think we're kidding? It makes me sad that I don't do better in conserving, recycling, buying less, buying local, traveling less by car. Who sold me this bill of goods, that the now is more important than the future? Talk is cheap, but doing is so very difficult.

 BUSH LIKENS IRAQ TO VIETNAM

President Bush has continuously stated that Iraq is not like Vietnam. Suddenly, he is making the comparison. He states that if we leave prematurely, killing and suffering will result. I wonder what the hell he thinks is happening now?

 MIND GAMES

It's hard to get over thinking that my way, or in your case, your way, is the only way. Each of our brains harbor within it the belief that we know the right way of doing things. Anything. Everything. We tend to believe we know "the truth." We fuss and fight and name-call in a vain attempt to see to it that our way is the way things should be done. That our way becomes the conventional wisdom. When all else fails, we pout. Or go to war. Or insist the other way is evil and wrong.
Getting over this is no easy matter, and is one of life's biggest challenges. As difficult as it is for us to believe, there are always numerous paths leading to the same destination. While one might be more trodden, or straighter, or have fewer obstacles, the others are just as likely to get you where you're going. Leaders, in particular, have a hard time with this notion. But sooner or later, the proclaimer of "the truth", or "the way", will end up ridiculed and humiliated for not trying to understand and allow for other options. In the end, death claims us all. That is an inevitable truth. Prior to that, the seeker has a lot of choices to make. If made with an open heart and goodness as your goal, who am I to say you are wrong to walk the path you have chosen?
