 QUOTE OF THE DAY

"If everyone howled at every injustice, very act of barbarism, every act of unkindness, then we would be taking the first step toward a real humanity." Nelson DeMille

IT'S BACK TO WORK FOR THE PEEVER

Crap. That was a short retirement. I got a call asking if I wanted to teach at the local community college. The last time I redid my resume' was twenty years ago. I had as a future goal to teach at a community college. So I said yes, I would like to. My first course, Intro. to Diversity. Right up my alley, cause I'm pretty diverse. Mon-Wed-Fri from 10-12noon. Start Monday. Although I have to admit, it does ruin my retirement. I can't run down to Hot Springs whenever I want. (By the way, I own two homes. Clearly one too many). I am looking forward to it, mainly because I do not have much contact with young people. This will help me keep up with what's going on with them. Community colleges are becoming more and more relevant as the price of a university education becomes prohibitive for many. Soon many college bound students will start at community colleges. The community colleges will need to meet the demand with high quality teachers. I hope I can help fill that need, although I have never formally taught before. But one thing is for sure, I will bring a lot of diversity to the diversity class. I suppose that's a start.

 OBAMA'S CHOICE FOR VP

I'm hoping we get a surprise. I would like to see either Caroline Kennedy or Richardson, but I am afraid Bayh or Biden have the upper hand. I hope Obama shows some nerve and goes with his change theme.
Otherwise, it's more of the same.

8/23/08: It's Biden. He needed someone with experience. You can only change things so much. I'm sure he and his staff are thinking better safe than sorry. We'll see. I'm disappointed but not surprised. In order to change things in Washington, you have to go all the way. Picking an established, old-line Senator who has been around forever is not a good sign that Obama is serious about changing much. Still, he's the only bet we've got. McCain is clearly more of the same. He's voted with Bush 95% of the time. That's not the signs of a maverick.
